Best Books for Kindergarten

Typical ages 5–6

This page is for parents and educators of kindergartners, children about 5 to 6 years old. Readers at this stage often love picture books with bold art, repeated phrases they can join in on, and stories about friendship, feelings and the world close to home. Many are also starting to notice letters and words on the page.

Below you will find award-winning picks first, then books grouped by subject, then every book on the site recommended for this grade. Grade ranges are editorial guidance, not rules, and every child reads differently, so follow your reader's interests.
