Our Lake is Angie Kang's debut picture book, a quiet story about two siblings who hike up to a lake where their father used to take them swimming. The older sibling plunges right in, but the younger one stops at the edge, unsure and overwhelmed. Thinking of their father helps the younger child find the courage to dive, and what follows beneath the surface is a dreamlike moment of closeness with him. The book is about missing someone, holding on to their memory, and taking a hard first step forward. Kang's paintings move from bright summer light to deep, glowing water. It received a 2026 Caldecott Honor and can open gentle conversations with young children about grief.
