Once & Future, Vol. 1: The King Is Undead

Once & Future, Vol. 1: The King Is Undead opens the fantasy comic series by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Dan Mora, collecting issues 1 to 6. Duncan McGuire is a mild-mannered museum curator whose life is turned upside down when his grandmother Bridgette, who seems to be an ordinary retiree, turns out to have spent her life hunting monsters. A group of British nationalists is trying to bring King Arthur back from the dead, believing he will restore their idea of Britain, and Bridgette knows that the legendary king would return as something far more dangerous. Pulled into a war against figures from British myth, Duncan has to learn fast. The series blends Arthurian legend, horror and action with a sharp sense of humor. This volume was a 2021 Hugo Award finalist for Best Graphic Story or Comic.
