Award year

1999 Texas Bluebonnet Award

Verdi by Janell Cannon won the 1999 Texas Bluebonnet Award, chosen by the votes of Texas children in grades three through six. Students spent the 1998–1999 school year reading from a master list that a Texas Library Association committee had put together, 20 books in all, and then cast ballots for the one they liked best. Other titles on that year's list included A Season of Comebacks, The Adventures of Hershel of Ostropol and The Big Bike Race. All of them appear below as nominees alongside the winner.
