The Top Book List

Award year

1997 Texas Bluebonnet Award

Texas students in grades three through six picked Math Curse by Jon Scieszka as the 1997 Texas Bluebonnet Award winner. Their vote closed out the 1996–1997 reading year, when young readers across the state worked through a master list of 19 books selected by a Texas Library Association committee. That list also featured Amber on the Mountain, Beast Feast and Beware of Kissing Lizard Lips. The winner and every other nominee from the 1996–1997 list are collected here.
