Best Adventure Books for 6th Grade

The adventure books on this page give sixth graders survival stories, mysteries and lighthearted summer escapades. Gary Paulsen's Hatchet strands a boy alone in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash, and Louis Sachar's Holes sends Stanley Yelnats to a desert camp where all the digging uncovers a family mystery. For something gentler, The Penderwicks follows four sisters through a summer full of mishaps. Craig Kofi Farmer's Kwame Crashes the Underworld and Nancy Farmer's The House of the Scorpion complete the list, and all five have won or been honored by major awards.
