Monstress, Vol. 9: The Possessed

Monstress, Vol. 9: The Possessed is the ninth collected volume of the epic fantasy comic series created by writer Marjorie Liu and artist Sana Takeda, gathering issues 49 to 54. The series is set in an alternate, matriarchal world shaped by war between humans and the Arcanics, beings of magic and mixed heritage. At its center is Maika Halfwolf, a young Arcanic woman who survived the war and carries a powerful, ancient monster bound inside her, a presence that gives her terrible strength and threatens to consume her. Takeda's richly detailed art, blending art deco and steampunk influences, has defined the series since its first issue. This volume continues Maika's struggle with her past and the forces that want to use her. It was a 2025 Hugo Award finalist.
