Monstress, Volume 3: Haven

Monstress, Volume 3: Haven is the third collected volume of the epic fantasy comic series created by writer Marjorie Liu and artist Sana Takeda, gathering issues 13 to 18. The series is set in an alternate, matriarchal world scarred by war between humans and the Arcanics, beings of magic and mixed heritage. Maika Halfwolf, a young Arcanic woman, shares her body with an ancient and hungry monster that grants her terrible power and threatens to consume her. In this volume, with enemies closing in from all sides, Maika travels to Pontus, a neutral city where she hopes to find temporary shelter, but finding safety there means learning to trust others and forming uneasy alliances. Takeda's richly detailed art, mixing art deco and East Asian influences, gives the world its distinctive look. The volume won the 2019 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic.
