About the book
Have You Ever Seen a Flower? is a picture book written and illustrated by Shawn Harris that invites young readers to experience nature with all of their senses. A child with long, rainbow-colored hair and a little white dog ride out of a gray city of skyscrapers and into open countryside, where the hills are covered with wildflowers. Running into a meadow, the child presses close to the blooms while a narrator asks whether anyone has truly seen a flower, or smelled one with eyes closed. The questions grow larger as the book goes on, connecting flowers to roots, water and life itself. Harris's bold colored-pencil illustrations fill every spread with energy and color. The book is for children about 3 to 5 years old and received a 2022 Caldecott Honor.
