Shawn Harris

Shawn Harris is an illustrator, author and musician. He sometimes performs as a singer-songwriter with the Oakland, California, band the Matches, and making the art for the band's albums in the early 2000s led him into illustration.

His first illustrated book was Her Right Foot, written by Dave Eggers, a nonfiction picture book about the Statue of Liberty. He has since illustrated What Can a Citizen Do? by Eggers, Everyone's Awake by Colin Meloy and A Polar Bear in the Snow by Mac Barnett.

Have You Ever Seen a Flower? (2021), his debut as both author and illustrator, invites young readers to experience a meadow of wildflowers with all of their senses, and it received a 2022 Caldecott Honor. He has also written and illustrated Doing Business. His bold, energetic colored-pencil art is a signature of his books for children.
