Award year

2023 Texas Bluebonnet Award

Announced

The 2023 Texas Bluebonnet Award went to Memoirs of a Tortoise by Devin Scillian, illustrated by Tim Bowers. More than 70,000 Texas students in grades 3 through 6 voted for their favorite book from the 2022–2023 list of twenty titles, after reading at least five of them. Because the Bluebonnet is a children's choice award, the result reflects the book that Texas readers themselves liked best that year rather than the verdict of an adult jury. The Texas Library Association announced the winner on February 21, 2023, and the author was honored at the association's annual conference that spring.
