Andrea Wang

Andrea Wang is an author of books for children who lives in Colorado. She holds a master's degree in environmental science and an MFA in creative writing for young people, and before her picture books she wrote several nonfiction titles for the school and library market.

Her picture books include The Nian Monster and Magic Ramen, and her middle-grade novel The Many Meanings of Meilan was published for older readers. Watercress (2021), illustrated by Jason Chin, draws on her own childhood as the daughter of Chinese immigrants in rural Ohio, when her parents stopped the car to gather watercress growing wild by the road. The book won the 2022 Caldecott Medal and received a 2022 Newbery Honor.

Her stories often explore family, memory and Chinese American identity, and the ways stories pass from one generation to the next.
