Best Adventure Books for 8th Grade

Adventure stories give eighth graders high stakes, wild places and characters who have to rely on their own wits. The books here include survival in the Canadian wilderness in Hatchet, a Newbery Honor book, and the desert camp of Holes by Louis Sachar, which won both the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award. Readers looking for something different can try The House of the Scorpion, a science fiction adventure set near the Mexican border, or recent Native-authored novels honored by the American Indian Youth Literature Award.
