About the book
Ezra Cloud, an Ojibwe teenager, hates living in Northeast Minneapolis. After he stands up to a bully who has been harassing his crush, Nora, and then finds himself suspected of a crime he did not commit, his family sends him north to stay with his grandfather in the wilderness. Far from the city, Ezra learns Ojibwe ways of living on the land and slowly comes to understand himself and the men in his family, but the people looking for him have not given up. Anton Treuer, a professor of the Ojibwe language, blends a taut thriller with a tender coming-of-age story in his first novel. It was a 2026 American Indian Youth Literature Award honor book for young adult readers.
