Twelve-year-old Molly is not happy about her new blended family. Her mother, an artist, has married Dave, and Molly and her younger brother Michael now share a home with Dave's seven-year-old daughter, Heather, who lost her own mother in a fire a few years earlier. The family's new house is a renovated church out in the country, with an old graveyard on the property. Heather soon becomes attached to the ghost of a girl named Helen, who died long ago, and Molly grows convinced that the ghost means Heather harm. To save the stepsister she has never liked, Molly will have to face something truly frightening. This chilling ghost story about grief and family is for confident middle-grade readers who enjoy a real scare.
No age or grade range recorded.
This is a genuinely scary ghost story. It deals with the deaths of a parent and of children in past fires, a drowning, and a young child in serious danger, so sensitive readers may want to share it with an adult.
