About the book
Joyce and Judith Scott were twins who did everything together as small children. Then Judith, who had Down syndrome and was deaf, was sent away to an institution, and the sisters were separated for decades. As an adult, Joyce brought Judith to live with her family in California and enrolled her in an art program for people with disabilities, where Judith began wrapping yarn, string and found objects into colorful sculptures that came to be shown in museums around the world. Joyce Scott tells her sister's story with Brie Spangler and Melissa Sweet, and Sweet's mixed-media illustrations shift in mood with each part of Judith's life. Back matter includes photographs of Judith's art. It was a 2022 Orbis Pictus honor book.
