About the book
Twelve-year-old Lucy Callahan was struck by lightning when she was little. She doesn't remember it, but it left her with an extraordinary gift for math. Homeschooled and already ready for college, Lucy would be happy to skip ahead. Her grandmother has other ideas: before Lucy can move on, she must spend one year at a regular middle school, make one friend, join one activity and read one book that isn't about math. Seventh grade turns out to be a puzzle that numbers alone can't solve, especially for a girl who likes to count things and keep her habits to herself. Stacy McAnulty's warm and funny novel is about friendship, belonging and learning that being different is not a problem to be fixed. It was a Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee.
