About the book

Three traditional tales from Latin America come to life as comics in this collection by Jaime Hernandez, the celebrated cartoonist behind Love and Rockets, in his first book for young readers. In one story, a kitchen maid with a kind heart finds herself facing a seven-headed dragon. In another, a young woman searches for the right husband and ends up marrying a mouse. In the third, a young man learns an important lesson from a thousand leaf-cutter ants. Hernandez based his retellings on versions gathered by the folklorists F. Isabel Campoy and Alma Flor Ada, giving the old stories a bold, modern look while keeping their humor and wisdom. The book is part of the TOON Graphics line and was a Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee.
