Christina is not looking forward to her summer. Instead of a vacation, she is sent to stay with her uncle, a gruff and unwelcoming man who lives in a big, isolated Victorian house far from everything familiar. The old house is quiet, shadowy and full of rooms that seem to be waiting for something. Before long Christina begins to suspect that she and her uncle are not alone there, and what starts as a lonely, uncomfortable stay turns into a ghostly mystery that she feels compelled to solve. Short, suspenseful and atmospheric, this ghost story from a writer known for children's chillers is a good choice for readers about eight to twelve who like a few shivers without true horror.
