Nero Book Awards

The Nero Book Awards celebrate the best new books by writers who live in the UK and Ireland. They were founded in 2023 by Caffè Nero, the family-owned coffee house group, which runs them on a not-for-profit basis with partners including the Booksellers Association and Brunel University of London. Books must be first published in English in the UK or Ireland during the award year, and their authors must have lived there for the previous three years.

Judges choose shortlists in four categories, Fiction, Debut Fiction, Non-Fiction and Children's Fiction, and name a winner in each in January. The four category winners then compete for the Nero Gold Prize, the overall book of the year, which is chosen by a final panel and announced in early spring. The Gold Prize winner receives 30,000 pounds, and each other category winner receives 5,000 pounds.

Books first published in English in the UK or Ireland during the award year are eligible if their authors have lived in the UK or Ireland for the previous three years.
