About the book

The Witches of World War II is a graphic novel written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Valeria Burzo that imagines a secret magical front in the war against Nazi Germany. An English witch with deep knowledge of folklore and the occult is approached by British intelligence and asked to put her craft to work for her country. She assembles an unlikely team that includes real historical occultists such as Gerald Gardner, Dion Fortune and Aleister Crowley. Posing as a band of traitorous magicians eager to help the Nazis, the group runs an elaborate deception that carries them from Britain into Germany itself. Mixing real people with invention, the book blends wartime spy thriller and folk magic. It was a 2024 Hugo Award finalist for Best Graphic Story or Comic.
