About the book
The sun shines, stars twinkle, lightning flashes and fireflies flicker. In this first science book for young children, Margaret Peot introduces the many sources of light, both natural and made by people, from the aurora borealis and fire to fireworks and glowing sea creatures such as bioluminescent squid and phytoplankton. Each spread pairs a few simple words with a dramatic painting set against a dark background, encouraging readers to look for light in the world around them, and the book's jacket glows in the dark. A list of science words with pronunciations closes the book, a 2023 Orbis Pictus honor book.
