About the book

When Minda Dentler was a baby in India, she contracted polio, and doctors said she would never walk. Her birth mother could not afford to care for her, and Minda was adopted by a family in the United States. This picture book autobiography follows her as she grows up finding her own ways to do the things other people said she could not, and then, as an adult, takes on one of the hardest endurance races in the world. She became the first woman wheelchair athlete to complete the Ironman World Championship triathlon. Stephanie Dehennin's illustrations follow Minda from Mumbai to the finish line in a story about persistence, adaptation and creative problem solving that encourages young readers to keep working at hard things.
