Strawberry Sunday

San Francisco P.I. John Marshall Tanner is in a hospital bed recuperating from a near-fatal gunshot wound. There he meets young Rita Lombardi, a girl from the brutal strawberry field of Salinas Valley with hopes and dreams of a better life. Her optimism helps Tanner out of his depression, and as she leaves the hospital, the two pledge to stay in touch. But Tanner is never welcomed to Haciendas by Rita. She's been murdered. There's talk that Rita was organizing a union. Tanner's client may not be around to pay, but he'll work as long as it takes to find out why his young friend died...
