Spinning Silver is a fantasy novel by Naomi Novik that reimagines the fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin. Miryem comes from a family of moneylenders, but her kindhearted father is poor at the trade, and the family struggles as a result. Taking over the work herself, Miryem proves so good at collecting debts that she earns a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold. That reputation draws the attention of the Staryk, cold and dangerous beings who haunt the nearby forest, and the challenge they set her soon binds her fate to the fates of others and of the whole kingdom. Drawing on Eastern European folklore, the novel is told by several narrators whose lives become entwined. It was a 2018 Nebula Award finalist and a 2019 Hugo Award finalist for Best Novel.
