Sounder

The tale of a young boy whose dearest wish, against all odds, is to learn to read. His family is poor but content until their father and his loyal coon-hound, Sounder, are taken from them in a single, terrible blow. Like his Bible hero Joseph, the boy spends years searching for his father, but instead finds a teacher who makes it possible to fulfill his dream. A powerful story woven of cruelty and kindness, denial and acceptance, painful loss and unexpected gain.
