About the book
Steve, a boy who loves old houses, and his large, loyal bulldog, Sinbad, set out to help an elderly neighbor and stumble into a tangled mystery. Their investigation leads them through a strange old mansion with a hidden passage and a cave, toward stories of a sunken floating casino, a missing pirate and a lost fortune, with gangsters and a possible ghost along the way. Steve narrates the adventure in a chatty, wandering voice full of his enthusiasm for buildings and local history, and the plot piles one surprise on another. Kin Platt's lively mystery won the Edgar Award for best juvenile mystery.
