About the book

Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation retells Octavia E. Butler's influential 1993 novel in comics form, adapted by Damian Duffy and illustrated by John Jennings. In the year 2024, Los Angeles has been battered by climate change, economic collapse and widespread violence. Lauren Olamina, the teenage daughter of a preacher, lives with her family inside a walled neighborhood that offers fragile protection from the chaos outside. Lauren feels the pain of others as if it were her own, and she is quietly shaping a new set of beliefs about change and survival. As the community's safety begins to give way, she must find a path forward in a dangerous world. Duffy and Jennings, who also adapted Butler's Kindred, bring the story's urgency to the page. The adaptation won the 2021 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic.
