About the book
Thirteen-year-old Daniel Leigh is officially the backup kicker for his school football team, the Erie Hills Elephants, although his real job is handing out water. He also has a secret: his mind is full of compulsions and rituals that he calls Zaps, and he works hard to keep anyone from noticing them. Everything shifts when Sara, a classmate most kids avoid and call names, starts talking to him as if she can see right through his act. Then Daniel finds a note from someone who signs it as a fellow Star Child and asks for his help, and he is drawn into a real mystery. The novel suits readers about 8 to 12 and treats anxiety and friendship with humor and care.
