My Daddy Is a Cowboy

My Daddy Is a Cowboy, written by Stephanie Seales and illustrated by C.G. Esperanza, follows a child and father who leave home before sunrise for a morning of riding together. At the stable they feed and care for their horses, Power and Clover, then saddle up and ride out through the quiet early hours, passing places that hold meaning for their family. Along the way, the father explains how being on horseback makes him feel strong, safe and happy. The story is a warm portrait of a parent and child sharing something they both love, and of the calm of an early morning outdoors. It received a 2025 Caldecott Honor and makes a fine read-aloud for young horse lovers.
