About the book
In the comfortable Connecticut suburb of Putnam Wells, Mrs. White devotes her days to her husband, Paul, a local carpenter, and to their young daughter. She has no idea that Paul is behind a string of savage killings that has the town on edge. The novel moves between the killer's private world and the slowly dawning unease of a wife who begins to glimpse the cruelty beneath the man she loves. Published under the pen name Margaret Tracy by the brothers Andrew and Laurence Klavan, it won the 1984 Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original and was later adapted into the 1987 film White of the Eye.
