About the book
Pedro Martín grew up in a Mexican American family of nine children, and he heard plenty of stories about his grandfather, a legendary figure said to have fought in the Mexican Revolution. When the family learns that Abuelito is coming to live with them, Pedro is not thrilled about sharing an already crowded house. Still, he piles into the family Winnebago for a long road trip into Mexico to bring his grandfather home. Along the way come long hours on the road, sibling chaos, family history and slowly growing respect between a boy and the tough old man he barely knows. This graphic memoir is funny and heartfelt, with lively art and plenty of road-trip comedy, and it shows a kid beginning to find his own voice. It suits readers about 10 to 14.
