Latinitas: Celebrating 40 Big Dreamers

Before they became artists, scientists, activists and leaders, the forty women in this collection were girls with big dreams. Juliet Menéndez, a Guatemalan American author and illustrator who once taught in New York City's bilingual public school classrooms, profiles Latinas from across Latin America and the United States, focusing on the first steps each one took toward the work she became known for. Every short biography is paired with a hand-painted portrait showing its subject as a child, which makes the book easy to explore one life at a time. A list of sources follows. It was a 2022 Orbis Pictus honor book and is also published in Spanish.
