Dark Forces is an anthology of new horror and suspense stories gathered by the literary agent and editor Kirby McCauley, first published in 1980. Every story was written for the book, and the contributors range from leading names in the genre to celebrated literary writers, including Ray Bradbury, Isaac Bashevis Singer and T. E. D. Klein. Its best-known piece is Stephen King's novella The Mist, in which a small Maine town is cut off by a strange fog. The collection is often cited as one of the defining horror anthologies of its era, and it won the World Fantasy Award for best anthology in 1981.
