About the book

Automatic Noodle is a warm, near-future science fiction novella by Annalee Newitz. In a San Francisco still recovering from a devastating war, a group of decommissioned robots switch back on inside an abandoned ghost kitchen. With no one telling them what to do next, they decide to build a life around something they already understand: cooking. Before long they are running their own restaurant and serving hand-pulled noodles to the people of the city. But a business staffed entirely by robots does not sit well with everyone, and a coordinated wave of hostile online reviews threatens to bring the whole venture down. The story explores work, community and belonging with a light, hopeful touch, and it was a 2026 Hugo Award finalist for Best Novella.
