Amazons!

Amazons! is an anthology of fantasy stories about women warriors, edited by Jessica Amanda Salmonson and published by DAW Books. Salmonson set out to collect adventure fiction in which women are the fighters, leaders and heroes rather than the rescued, and the book gathers swords-and-sorcery tales and other fantasy from a range of writers of the time. The stories travel across invented kingdoms, legendary pasts and mythic landscapes, with heroines who take up arms on their own terms. The collection won the World Fantasy Award for best anthology in 1980.
