Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction Winner
Award year
The 2021 Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction went to Helen Frost for All He Knew, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Told in verse and prose from several points of view, the novel follows Henry, a deaf boy whose family places him in a state institution in the years leading up to and during World War II, and the people who try to reach him there. Frost's book was the year's single winner; the award does not name honor books. The Scott O'Dell Award goes to a work of historical fiction for young readers set in the Americas and written by a U.S. citizen, and it carries a $5,000 prize for the author.
