National Jewish Book Awards
About the award
The National Jewish Book Awards, presented by the Jewish Book Council, honor outstanding English-language books of Jewish interest. The program was inaugurated in 1950 and covers books published across North America. Each year judges select winners in more than twenty categories, among them fiction, debut fiction, history, biography, memoir, poetry, Holocaust studies, scholarship, food writing, and books for young children, middle-grade readers and teens.
The highest honor is the Jewish Book of the Year. The awards are announced early in the year following the books' publication and celebrated at a gala dinner in New York City in the spring. The program also includes a mentorship award recognizing a person who has helped other writers and the wider world of Jewish books.
English-language books of Jewish interest published in North America during the previous year are eligible across more than twenty categories.
Usually announced in January.
