Locus Awards
About the award
The Locus Awards are chosen by the readers of Locus, the magazine that has covered science fiction, fantasy and horror publishing since 1968. Founded by the magazine's founder, Charles N. Brown, and first given in 1971, the awards began as a readers' poll meant to guide Hugo Award voters and grew into one of the field's most respected honors. Unusually, they also recognize the publishers of winning works with certificates.
Voting is open to anyone, and the winners are announced at a live banquet during the Locus Awards Weekend, which has grown into a conference of readings, workshops and panels. Categories cover science fiction, fantasy and horror novels, first novels and young adult books, along with short fiction, collections, anthologies, nonfiction, art, editors and magazines.
Science fiction, fantasy and horror works first published during the previous calendar year.
Usually announced in June.
