About the award

The International Booker Prize honors a single work of fiction translated into English, and it recognizes the author and the translator together, with the prize money divided equally between them. It is run by the Booker Prize Foundation, which also awards the Booker Prize for fiction written in English. Beginning with the 2027 prize, it is called the Bukhman International Booker Prize, after the philanthropic organization that funds it.

The prize began in 2005 as the Man Booker International Prize, which was awarded every other year for an author's body of work. It took its current form as an annual award for one translated book in 2016. Each year a panel of judges selects a longlist, then a shortlist of six books, before naming the winner in the spring. Every shortlisted author and translator also receives a smaller award.

Novels and short story collections translated into English from another language and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland are eligible.

Usually announced in May.
