Announced

The 2026 Hurston/Wright Legacy Awards, the program's 25th, were presented on October 9, 2026, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C. The foundation now calls its four book prizes the Zora Awards. Harmonia Rosales won in fiction for Chronicles of Ori, a debut that retells African myths, and Justin Haynes won in debut fiction for Ibis. Danielle Bainbridge took the nonfiction prize for Dandelion: A Memoir in Essays, and Douglas Kearney won in poetry for I Imagine I Been Science Fiction Always. Three finalists were named in each of the fiction, debut fiction and nonfiction categories in August. The foundation's board also gave its merit awards to Joanne V. Gabbin, Martha S.
