Harvey Awards
About the award
The Harvey Awards honor the year's outstanding comics, graphic novels, and manga. Named for Harvey Kurtzman (1924-1993), the cartoonist and editor who created MAD, they have been presented since 1988 and rank among the oldest industry awards in American comics. Since 2017 the ceremony has been held during New York Comic Con, with the awards coordinated by the convention's organizer, ReedPop.
A hand-picked group of industry figures selects the nominees, and qualified comics and publishing professionals vote on the winners. Categories include Book of the Year, Digital Book of the Year, Best Children's Book, Best Young Adult Book, Best Manga, Best International Book, and Best Adaptation from Comic Book/Graphic Novel. Special honors, including the Harvey Hall of Fame, are chosen by the awards' executive committee. Nominees are usually announced in summer, and the winners are revealed at a ceremony each October.
Comics, graphic novels, manga, and digital comics released during the eligibility year, including works translated into English, with nominees chosen by an industry committee and winners voted on by comics professionals.
Usually announced in October.
